Suction is one variable in an air path. Pickup also depends on brush agitation, seal, airflow, floor contact, programming, and how quickly the bin or filter loads.
Pa is pressure, not a whole-floor result
Manufacturers may publish a peak pressure measured under their own conditions. Without a shared test setup, the number is not a fair ranking across brands or generations.
The pickup chain
The brush has to release debris, the intake has to capture it, the air path has to remain clear, and the filter has to breathe. Narrow intakes, loaded filters, hair-wrapped bearings, or a nearly full bin can change real pickup.
- For carpet, inspect brush agitation and floor contact.
- For hard floors, watch whether the side brush scatters cereal or litter.
- For edges, inspect wall-following behavior and extending hardware.
- For pet hair, inspect both the main roller and hidden end-cap bearings.
Rubber versus bristle is not a universal winner
Roller material, geometry, counter-rotation, suspension, and hair-release design all matter. Long human hair may behave differently from short pet fur. Replacement price and tool-free access belong in the comparison.
Carpet boost and mop lift
A combo robot should identify carpet consistently, adjust cleaning behavior, and keep wet material away from rugs. Published mop-lift height is only useful when compared with your actual pile and transitions.
Evidence to seek
Prefer repeatable pickup demonstrations on the same floor types, measurements taken under stated conditions, and long-term maintenance notes. A single dramatic pile pickup is not a complete test.
